NSI's Traditional owners

CRL has established long term relationships with the island’s Traditional Owners and we share their excitement at discovering and preserving sites on the island that are of cultural heritage significance.

Our mining leases contain recognised sites of cultural significance to the island’s indigenous community including birthing sites, burial sites, bora rings, midden sites and geographical features such as lakes, creeks, hills and trees.

CRL developed a Cultural Heritage Management Plan (CHMP) in consultation with the Native title claimants for North Stradbroke Island and surrounding waters to preserve sites of significant cultural heritage. In January 2006, CRL and the Minjerribah Moorgumpin Elders in Council signed this plan.

CRL is also supporting the efforts of the Minjerribah Moorgumpin Elders to establish an education facility at the site of the Myora Mission. The project Terra Bulla Leameah will be an eco-friendly tourist attraction where people can visit to learn more about indigenous history, bush tucker and indigenous story telling.
