With over 40 years mining experience on North Stradbroke Island Unimin Australia Limited has a special responsibility for the local community and the island’s unique environment. We believe communication is an integral part of our business and strive to ensure that our stakeholders, local community and relevant groups are aware of the status of our operations and environmental programs.

For operational and safety reasons Unimin conducts tours of its active mine sites for tertiary education groups and special interest groups where the relevance and benefits of a mine site tour are identified and approved by management. Bookings must be received by Unimin at least one month prior to the requested date. Bookings cannot be assured until confirmed by Unimin’s Community Relations staff.

For secondary students Unimin continues to provide information about our mining operations and world class rehabilitation  through our website, Teachers Kits, fact sheets and community newsletter - the Sand Times

Unimin has also contributed to the teaching resource Resources and the Environment – Living with Climate Change and Sustaining Biodiversity with case studies and detailed information on Unimin Mineral Sands operations. The resource is available through the Queensland Resource Council (Ph: 07 3316 2531 http://www.qrc.org.au/default.asp).
