Customer Centre
At CRL, we take the time to understand how our customers do business, their markets and products. This ensures we optimise our production outputs to capitalise on global export and domestic minerals trade opportunities as they arise.
We process and distribute three core minerals - rutile, zircon and ilmenite.
What is rutile ? Rutile is high grade (+90%) titanium dioxide that is processed to form a high quality, white pigment used in paints, paper, plastics, and cosmetics.
Rutile is also processed to titanium metal for the aerospace industry and for the production of surgical equipment, such as artificial hips and pacemakers. In Australia, titanium is also used to manufacture tracking tags for dugongs as part of environmental research in Queensland’s Moreton Bay.
What is Ilmenite ? Ilmenite is a mixture of iron and titanium oxides and is also used to make titanium dioxide pigment. Another use for ilmenite is sand blasting.
What is zircon ? Finely ground zircon is used in the ceramic industry for glazes on kitchen and bathroom tiles, dinnerware, and decorative ceramics. It is also widely used in television and computer screens and for welding purposes. CRL produces around 4% of the world's output of zircon. Ceramics account for around 50% of world demand for zircon.
